In 2024, APFC engaged 131 individuals representing 46 organizations to assess Arizona’s behavioral health landscape. The resulting report identified critical systemic challenges:
Workforce Shortages
Arizona faces a shortage of behavioral health providers, particularly in rural areas. Recruitment, retention, and limited access to specialty providers further exacerbate care gaps.
Housing Gaps
Insufficient permanent supportive housing leaves individuals with behavioral health needs and disabilities without the stability required for recovery.
Provider Strain
Existing providers are overwhelmed by staffing shortages and resource constraints, affecting service quality and access statewide.
